At the end of 2016, there were an estimated 36.7 million people living with HIV/AIDS, including 2.1 million children. About 1.8 million people were newly infected with HIV. Women accounted for an estimated 17.8 million of all adults living with HIV/AIDS. Young people (under 25 years old) accounted for more than 30% of all new HIV infections. There were an estimated 1 million AIDS deaths. More than 35 million people have died of AIDS-related causes since 1981.
United States Overall Statistics
In 2017, an estimated 38,739 people became infected with HIV. More than 1.1 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV. Nearly 700,000 people in the U.S. have died of AIDS-related causes since the epidemic began.
In 2017, the group with the highest number of diagnoses was Black men who have sex with men (MSM), with 9,807 new infections—representing about 25% of all new infections.
But the true reason why we all walk is that there is NO cure YET for HIV/AIDS!!
